Meet Eileen – LizzieSat®-3

Honoring Legacies Through LizzieSat®: The “Sidus Unsung Sheroes” Initiative

At Sidus Space, our LizzieSat® satellites are more than just cutting-edge technology—they’re tributes to extraordinary women whose resilience and impact deserve recognition. Through our Sidus Unsung Sheroes initiative, we honor women who have made a lasting difference in their communities and beyond, often without widespread recognition. These women embody perseverance, strength, and an unwavering commitment to overcoming obstacles—qualities that inspire us and align with our mission of pushing boundaries in space and on Earth.

In this spirit, LizzieSat®-3 (LS-3) has been named Eileen, in honor of Eileen Bernadette Berry, known as “The Global Everywoman”.

Eileen’s title, “The Global Everywoman”, reflects a universal truth—on the outside, we often see strength, determination, and resilience, but beneath the surface are the untold struggles that have shaped that strength. Her story is one of quiet endurance, of navigating life’s hardships with a steadfast resolve, proving that perseverance is not just about survival but about moving forward with grace and purpose.

Born on January 11, 1947, Eileen grew up in Ballyfermot, a suburb of Dublin, before settling in Finglas. Her journey has been one of resilience and reinvention. She worked as a cinema usher in one of Dublin’s famous picture houses (movie theatres) on O’Connell Street before taking on work in the kitchens of public houses (pubs). Life took unexpected turns, and she found herself in difficult circumstances, carrying burdens she rarely spoke of. When her husband passed away, she faced an uncertain and challenging path, forced to rebuild her life with little more than her determination.

It was during this time that she met Seamus Gilbert, a gravedigger, who introduced her to the Kavanagh family. That introduction led to a job at John Kavanagh “The Gravediggers,” a famous pub founded in 1833, where she has worked for over 27 years—and counting.

Despite the personal challenges she has faced, Eileen gets up every day, arriving at Gravediggers to clean the bar, greet visitors, and share her stories. She reminds us that true strength is often quiet, built over years of facing adversity and choosing to carry on. Though she has no immediate family of her own, she has built a family through friendships, creating a space where she is not only known but deeply valued.

Now living in a home secured for her by the Kavanagh family, Eileen finds joy in life’s simple pleasures—her fish tank, the cheerful sounds of her budgies (parakeets), and, most of all, the connection she forms with new people. She takes great pride in her appearance, carrying herself with the confidence and individuality that have always defined her.

Like Eileen, LizzieSat® -3 represents resilience—built to endure, adapt, and push forward no matter the obstacles. We are honored to celebrate an extraordinary everyday woman whose perseverance reflects the spirit of exploration and resilience that drives us forward.
